Today, we live in the world of mobility. Smartphones, tablets, gadgets, etc. they are making our life easier and more exciting. And if you are a photography addict, a natural solution for your needs is the Instagram mobile app. But, what happens if you haven’t quite jumped on the mobile bandwagon just yet? Do you give up on using Instagram? No, continue reading and learn everything you need to know about the alternatives to the Instagram app.

Not owning a mobile device shouldn’t be the reason which keeps you away from the joys of Instagram. You can run it on your computer too, with a little bit of help. It can be a little tricky, but if you don’t have the option to use Instagram on your smartphone, these methods will be more than useful.

First of all, let’s make it clear – there is no official Instagram for PC app. Why is that? Well, it’s kind of a mind-boggling question to which we don’t have an answer. But, there are two ways in which you can make it work. One is to install an emulator which will allow you to simulate a mobile phone operating system on your computer.

Another one is to use a desktop app. Both ways have some pros and cons, but both methods will make it possible. So, let’s get to the point and see how you can use Instagram on your PC or Mac.

BlueStacks app player (Windows/Mac)

This one is an Android emulator which allows you to run Android apps on your Mac or Windows PC. Go to the BlueStacks website and download the program to your computer.

Once the download has finished, all that is left is to install the BlueStacks Android emulator. The installation is straight-forward and should go without a hitch. Once you have installed BlueStacks, you will have to log in using your Google account, and then you will be on your way to successfully using Instagram on your PC.

Search for “Instagram” using the in-app search interface and install it. The icon will appear on your BlueStacks desktop, and it will run like any regular Android app. But, be advised that some users may experience technical glitches. There is still some software/hardware incompatibility which will hopefully be fixed soon.

Despite the fact that BlueStacks has some problems, most of the users are satisfied with how it performs and they are using it on a daily basis.

If you don’t want to use an Android emulator, there are alternative solutions. There are a few desktop apps which do a good job, but the problem is that there aren’t many solutions for Mac users. Read on and learn which Windows and Mac apps can help you use Instagram without a smartphone.

InstaPic (Windows)

InstaPic is a native Instagram client for Windows which you can download from the Windows Store. You can login or create an account, and do almost everything like in the mobile app. Upload photos, add filters, send/receive private messages, follow/unfollow users and much more. It’s fast, intuitive and even offers Facebook and Windows address book integration.

Some of the users have complained that InstaPic has a few glitches which prevent them from using it the way they would want to. The good news is that InstaPic has a hard-working team behind it, and the team puts out new updates regularly. If your use of InstaPic isn’t as the way you have imagined it to be, you should try using it again after it has been updated.

Gramblr (Windows/Mac)

Gramblr is a straightforward and limited desktop app. It offers a photo uploader which is simple to use, but some of the more advanced options are missing. It’s compatible with PC and Mac, but a lot of users are reporting compatibility issues on Apple computers.

Gramblr allows you to crop your photos. You won’t have to use any photo editing software. If you like to make your pictures look amazing, you will be glad to know that Gramblr offers you over 50 different filters. The interface is simplistic and intuitive; even an absolute beginner will have no problems with using this app.

Pixsta (Windows)

Pixsta is an elegant and incredibly fast desktop app, formerly known as Instagrille. It gives you one of a complete Instagram experiences on PC – you can view and like photos and videos, take part in discussions, and a lot more. The interface is feature-rich and well-designed. However, one thing is missing – you can’t upload photos. But if you use Pixsta & Gramblr combo, you will get a full and rich Instagram experience.

One of the best things about this app is that it offers features which the Instagram app doesn’t have! You can discover pictures taken “Nearby,” you can also view photos in full-screen, and even download them to your desktop.

This program is a classy and stylish alternative to InstaPic. We love all of the extra features, but the fact that we can’t upload photos leaves a sour taste.

These are the main apps which will bring the world of Instagram onto your desktop. There are some other solutions and possibilities – you can, for example, use Dropbox. It’s a free cloud-based storage app with “Dropbox to Instagram” integration which will automatically upload your stored images onto the platform.

If you are not satisfied with the filters and effects the previously-mentioned apps provide, you can use other apps to add effects and filters before uploading your pictures. We recommend that you try out Pixlr and Poladroid. Both of them are web-based apps and provide you with a lot of cool vintage effects. Until we receive an official Instagram app for Windows and Mac, the apps we have listed will be more than enough, not only because they do the same things the Instagram app does, but because they also offer a lot of extra options.

With these tools, you will easily share your photos and passion for photography with other people. So, take your camera, do your best, and enjoy. Instagram is waiting for you!
